What is the UK Sole Representative Extension Visa?

The Sole Representative of an Overseas Business Visa allows a senior employee of an international company to establish and manage a UK branch or wholly owned subsidiary on behalf of their overseas employer. Once the branch or subsidiary has been successfully set up and operated for 3 years, visa holders may apply for an extension to continue their role and strengthen the business’s UK presence.

Eligibility Requirements for the Extension

To qualify for a Sole Representative Visa extension, applicants must demonstrate that both they and their overseas employer continue to meet the Home Office requirements. Key conditions include:

  • The overseas parent company must still have its main office and principal place of business outside the UK.

  • The applicant must remain employed full-time as the overseas business’s representative, actively managing the UK branch or subsidiary.

  • The business operations in the UK must be directly tied to the overseas employer, not an independent venture.

  • Applicants must show proof of income and salary payments from the overseas parent company.

  • Evidence must be provided that the UK entity has been generating business activity, primarily with UK-based firms, since the initial visa was granted.

  • The applicant must already be living in the UK at the time of applying for the extension.

Visa Duration

If approved, the extension grants an additional 2 years of stay in the UK. After meeting the required residency period, applicants can move forward toward Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) and eventually full settlement.

Key Benefits of Extending the Sole Representative Visa
  • Family Continuity – Dependent family members, including children who turned 18 during the initial visa period, may continue to live in the UK.

  • Settlement Pathway – After completing the qualifying period, visa holders may apply for ILR (permanent residency).

  • British Citizenship – Following 6 years of lawful residence, applicants may be eligible to apply for British citizenship, enjoying the full rights of a UK national.
